ALL STORMS CALM DOWN

We live in a world where our lives isn’t static. It’s constantly moving, changing and turning directions. Nothing can be trusted in this world. Today can be paradise but tomorrow?  Therefore, since your trust and hope cannot be based on anything in this world, it should be in Christ and Christ alone. Nothing else. In this way, since Christ lives forever, so will your joy. So even if, tragedy or troubles come our way, you will know that Christ is always by your side.
Mark 4:35-41 is a story of a storm in the Bible. Let’s study this scripture…..

Mark 4:35 – That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “let us go over to the other side.”

In life you are given direction to do something God has told you to do for his glory.

Mark 4:36 – Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, Just as he was in the boat. There were also other boats with him.

You obey God by leaving the crowd behind. You put your trust in God alone.

Mark 4:37 – A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.

The storm arrives and disturbs your journey. You feel like you are about to sink. Why would this happen when God was the one who sent me?

Mark 4:38 – Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

We feel as if God is asleep and he is not worried about us. We often ask “Lord do you not care?”

Mark 4:39 – He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

God comes to our rescue and saves us. He doesn’t just save us he saves us completely.

Mark 4:40 – He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

God is asking you why did you have so little faith?

First of all, the time factor is unknown. We don’t know how long the storm lasted. Second of all, as long as Jesus was in the boat, it would have never sunk. We will face problems, situations and dilemmas in our life. It could be for a long time or for a short period. A day or a year, it doesn’t matter, God will help you through. The fact that Jesus was at the stern means he must always be in the front leading our lives. He was sleeping on a cushion which shows that Jesus is our comfort through the storm. The question that Jesus asked His disciples was not past tense because they were still afraid even after the storm was calmed.

The main question is ‘WHY?’. Why does God allow us to go through the storm? Why does God allow these problems occur in our everyday life?

  • To bring glory to God {John 9:1-3}
  • To increase your faith {Romans 4:18-21}
  • For your own testimony {Revelations 12:11}
  • To help others in that situation
  • Draw you closer to God {Proverbs 18:10}
  • To learn something {Proverbs 1:5}

What do we do in the storm?

  • Wait upon the lord {Psalms 46:10}
  • Be patient {Romans 12:12}
  • Trust in God
  • Pray {1 Thessalonians 5:17}
  • Be thankful {1 Thessalonians 5:18}

No matter what, God will never leave you nor forsake you {Hebrews 13:5}. Never doubt God, you are making Him seem smaller in your life than He really is. Hardships prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary purpose.
